FOR CHILDREN

In-Person Child Autism Assessment

An in-person multidisciplinary team assessment (MDT) for young people aged 6–17, including a detailed diagnostic report, held at our clinic in central London.

If you are seeking clarity or a formal autism diagnosis for your child, our in-person assessments provide a structured, child-centred way to understand what is going on and plan the right support. Being in the room with a clinician can feel more natural for some children and families, especially where anxiety, communication differences or sensory needs make online-only appointments more challenging.

We offer Weekend appointments, which can make it easier to attend without your child needing to miss school.

This is a three-part multidisciplinary assessment that combines:

  • A 90-minute in-person ADOS-2 session at our clinic with you and your child, led by our Neurodiversity Specialists.
  • A separate 90-minute online parent interview with the parent or carer only, led by our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
  • A 20-minute online follow-up appointment with our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. This appointment does not require your child’s involvement and is where the diagnosis is shared.

Assessment format:

This assessment format is a multidisciplinary NICE-compliant pathway using more than one clinician, and combining direct observation, parent or carer interview and questionnaires, reflects best-practice assessment. This approach can also support an EHCP application.

To schedule your child’s in-person Autism assessment, please select a suitable date and time, then follow the instructions to complete your payment. Flexible payment options (including Klarna) are available.

For More Information

What is a child autism assessment?
A child autism assessment is a detailed evaluation that looks at whether your child meets the diagnostic criteria for autism. It is designed to build a clear understanding of your child’s strengths, differences and support needs across home, school and everyday life.
This assessment is suitable for children where there are concerns about possible autism, including differences in communication, social interaction, sensory processing, behaviour or emotional regulation. It can also be helpful for families who are seeking clarity after ongoing concerns at home or school.
Assessments are carried out by experienced neurodevelopmental clinicians, including professionals with expertise in autism and child development. The assessment process follows recognised diagnostic standards and considers your child’s presentation carefully and thoroughly.

This is a multidisciplinary team, or MDT, autism assessment. One clinician carries out the ADOS assessment with your child in person, and another clinician carries out the interview with the parent/carer. The ADOS focuses on your child’s presentation, while the parent interview gathers detailed developmental information. This MDT format is important because it helps ensure the assessment is accepted by the NHS and compliant with NICE guidance.

The in-person child autism assessment is completed as part of a structured MDT process rather than a single short appointment. One clinician carries out the in-person 90 minute ADOS assessment with your child, and another carries out an online 90-minute parent interview with the family, alongside pre-assessment review and report preparation.

Yes. Parent or carer input is an essential part of the assessment, and school reports are mandatory in accordance with NICE guidance. This helps the clinician understand how your child presents across different settings and supports a thorough and evidence-based diagnostic process.
No. A child autism assessment is more than a brief appointment or checklist. It is designed to gather information from different sources so that any diagnosis, or decision not to diagnose, is careful, robust and evidence-based.
The assessment looks at areas such as social communication, interaction, sensory differences, routines and flexibility, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and developmental history. It may also consider whether other factors, such as ADHD, anxiety or learning differences, could be relevant.
After the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report explaining whether your child meets the criteria for autism. The report is designed to be clear and practical, helping you understand how autism may affect your child’s learning, behaviour, relationships and day-to-day life.
Yes. The report can be shared with schools and is written to help teachers, SENCOs and other professionals understand your child’s needs more clearly. It includes practical recommendations that may help support your child both in the classroom and more widely in school life.
Yes. The report may form an important part of the evidence used for an Education, Health and Care Plan application or review. It explains your child’s needs, the impact on daily functioning and learning, and the kinds of support that may be appropriate.
Yes. The report includes practical recommendations tailored to your child’s needs. These may relate to support at home, in school and in other settings, so families and professionals have clearer guidance on the next steps.
Yes. Follow-up appointments can help parents understand the outcome of the assessment, think about how to talk to their child about the diagnosis, and plan next steps. They can also be useful when considering support for any co-occurring difficulties.
Yes. An in-person appointment can be helpful where face-to-face interaction and direct observation may add to the clinician’s understanding of your child’s presentation.

Yes. ADHD Health Clinic is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This means the clinic is required to meet established standards for safety, quality of care and clinical governance in England.
