Why Choose ADHD Health Clinic for Your Child Autism Assessment?

Autism can present differently in adolescence. Our pathway is purpose-built for 6–17 year olds and combines clinical rigour with a calm, family-centred approach.

We use ADOS with your child to observe real-time communication and interaction, and ADI-R with parents/carers to capture detailed developmental history. We also gather perspectives from home and school using the SRS-2, which quantifies social awareness, social communication and restricted interests across settings. Together, these tools provide a robust, multi-informant view of your child’s profile.

Your clinician is an experienced Chartered Psychologist with expertise in the assessment, treatment and management of complex psychological needs in children. Following the assessment you’ll receive a clear, practical diagnostic report that can be shared with your GP and school, including tailored recommendations for education, reasonable adjustments and onward referrals. Appointments are typically available within weeks, helping families access support sooner.

For More Information

What is a child autism assessment?
A child autism assessment is a detailed evaluation that looks at whether your child meets the diagnostic criteria for autism. It is designed to build a clear understanding of your child’s strengths, differences and support needs across home, school and everyday life.
This assessment is suitable for children where there are concerns about possible autism, including differences in communication, social interaction, sensory processing, behaviour or emotional regulation. It can also be helpful for families who are seeking clarity after ongoing concerns at home or school.
Assessments are carried out by experienced neurodevelopmental clinicians, including professionals with expertise in autism and child development. The assessment process follows recognised diagnostic standards and considers your child’s presentation carefully and thoroughly.
The online assessment is a structured process rather than a single appointment. It may include a developmental history, parent questionnaires, information from school, direct clinical assessment completed remotely, and a review of any previous reports or relevant background information.
Yes. Parent information is an important part of the process, and school feedback is often helpful where available. This allows the clinician to understand how your child presents across different settings and to build a fuller picture of their needs.
No. A child autism assessment is more than a brief appointment or checklist. It is designed to gather information from different sources so that any diagnosis, or decision not to diagnose, is careful, robust and evidence-based.
The assessment looks at areas such as social communication, interaction, sensory differences, routines and flexibility, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and developmental history. It may also consider whether other factors, such as ADHD, anxiety or learning differences, could be relevant.
After the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report explaining whether your child meets the criteria for autism. The report is designed to be clear and practical, helping you understand how autism may affect your child’s learning, behaviour, relationships and day-to-day life.
Yes. The report can be shared with schools and is written to help teachers, SENCOs and other professionals understand your child’s needs more clearly. It includes practical recommendations that may help support your child both in the classroom and more widely in school life.
Yes. The report may form an important part of the evidence used for an Education, Health and Care Plan application or review. It explains your child’s needs, the impact on daily functioning and learning, and the kinds of support that may be appropriate.
Yes. The report includes practical recommendations tailored to your child’s needs. These may relate to support at home, in school and in other settings, so families and professionals have clearer guidance on the next steps.
Yes. Follow-up appointments can help parents understand the outcome of the assessment, think about how to talk to their child about the diagnosis, and plan next steps. They can also be useful when considering support for any co-occurring difficulties.
Yes. Online appointments can be a helpful option for families who would prefer to avoid travel or need something that fits more easily around school and family life.
Yes. Self-referrals are welcome. Families can contact the clinic directly to enquire about an assessment and discuss whether this pathway is suitable for their child.
