FOR CHILDREN

In-Person Combined Child Autism & ADHD Assessment

An in-person, multidisciplinary team assessment (MDT) for children and young people aged 6–17 where there are concerns about both autism and ADHD. Held at our clinic in central London, this pathway brings together our autism and ADHD expertise into one integrated process, rather than putting your child through two completely separate assessments.

We offer Saturday appointments, which can make it easier to attend without your child needing to miss school.

This is a three-part multi disciplinary assessment that combines:

  • A 90 minute in-person ADHD session at our clinic with you and your child, led by our Neurodiversity Specialist.
  • A 90 minute in-person ADOS-2 (Autism) session at our clinic with you and your child, led by our Neurodiversity Specialist.
  • A separate 90-minute online parent interview with the parent or carer only, led by our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

Assessment format:

  • A multidisciplinary NICE-compliant pathway: using more than one clinician, and combining direct observation, parent or carer interview and questionnaires, reflects best-practice assessment. This approach can also support an EHCP application.
  • 1.5 hours with your child for the ADHD appointment.  If ADHD is diagnosed and medication is recommended, we can oversee treatment and, once medication is optimised, request Shared Care from your GP.
  • 1.5 hours with your child (ADOS-2): our Neurodiversity Specialist, who also works in the NHS, will carry out the in-person assessment with you and your child using structured activities and conversation.
  • 1.5 hours with parent/carer: a structured parent interview based on DSM-5 criteria, exploring your child’s developmental history, social communication, behaviour and day-to-day presentation.

To schedule your child’s in-person combined assessment, please select a suitable date and time, then follow the instructions to complete your payment. Flexible payment options (including Klarna) are available.

What is a combined child ADHD and autism assessment?
A combined child ADHD and autism assessment is a detailed evaluation that looks at whether your child meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, autism, or both. It is designed to build a joined-up understanding of your child’s strengths, differences and support needs across home, school and everyday life.
This assessment is suitable for children where there are concerns about both ADHD and autism traits, or where it is unclear which diagnosis may best explain their difficulties. It can be particularly helpful where there are overlapping concerns around attention, behaviour, social communication, sensory processing and emotional regulation.
Assessments are carried out by experienced neurodevelopmental clinicians, including professionals with expertise in both ADHD and autism. The assessment process follows recognised diagnostic standards and considers your child’s presentation carefully and thoroughly.

This is a multidisciplinary team, or MDT, combined ADHD and autism assessment. The autism part of the assessment is completed in MDT format, with one clinician carrying out the ADOS assessment with your child in person and another clinician carrying out the parent interview. Alongside this, the ADHD assessment considers your child’s developmental history, current presentation, parent information, school reports and wider functioning. This MDT format is important because it helps ensure the autism assessment is accepted by the NHS and compliant with NICE guidance.

The in-person combined child ADHD and autism assessment is completed as part of a structured multidisciplinary process rather than a single short appointment. It includes detailed clinical assessment, input from parents and school, pre-assessment review, and the preparation of a comprehensive diagnostic report. It requires a 90minute ADHD assessment, 90 minute ADOS assessment and a 90 minute parent interview.

Yes. Parent or carer input is an essential part of the assessment, and school reports are mandatory in accordance with NICE guidance. This helps the clinical team understand how your child presents across different settings and supports a thorough and evidence-based combined assessment.
A combined assessment allows clinicians to look at ADHD and autism together in one pathway. This can help provide a clearer and more complete picture of your child’s profile, rather than splitting their needs across separate assessments.
The assessment looks at areas such as attention, impulsivity, activity levels, social communication, sensory differences, emotional regulation, behaviour, learning and developmental history. It may also consider whether other factors, such as anxiety, trauma or learning differences, could be relevant.
No. A combined child assessment is more than a brief screening or checklist. It is designed to gather information from different sources so that any diagnosis, or decision not to diagnose, is careful, robust and evidence-based.
After the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report explaining whether your child meets the criteria for autism, ADHD, both, or neither. The report is designed to be clear and practical, helping you understand how your child’s profile may affect learning, behaviour, social interaction and day-to-day life.
Yes. The report can be shared with schools and is written to help teachers, SENCOs and other professionals understand your child’s needs more clearly. It includes practical recommendations that may help support your child in the classroom and across wider school life.
Yes. The report may form an important part of the evidence used for SEN support planning, an Education, Health and Care Plan application, or an EHCP review. It explains your child’s needs, the impact on learning and daily functioning, and the kinds of support and adjustments that may be appropriate.
Yes. The report includes practical recommendations tailored to your child’s needs. These may relate to support at home, in school and in other settings, so families and professionals have clearer guidance on the next steps.
Yes. If ADHD is diagnosed and medication is considered clinically appropriate, medication options can be discussed with a consultant psychiatrist. This includes considering benefits, possible side effects, monitoring and how treatment may fit alongside non-medication strategies and autism-informed support.
Shared care may be possible once your child’s medication is stable, but you should always check with your child’s GP before starting treatment if shared care is important to you. There is no national policy on shared care, and decisions are made locally by individual GP practices and healthcare boards. More than half of our shared care agreements are accepted by NHS GPs, as our medication pathway is managed by consultant psychiatrists. Final approval, however, always rests with your child’s GP.
Yes. Follow-up appointments can help families understand the outcome of the assessment, review next steps, discuss support at school and, where relevant, review medication or wider treatment plans.
Yes. An in-person appointment can be helpful where face-to-face interaction and direct observation may add to the clinician’s understanding of your child’s presentation.
Yes.
Yes. ADHD Health Clinic is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This means the clinic is required to meet established standards for safety, quality of care and clinical governance in England.
