FOR CHILDREN

In-Person Child ADHD Assessment

A 90 minutes in-person ADHD assessment for children and young people aged 6–17, including a detailed diagnostic report, held at our clinic in central London.

If you are seeking clarity or a formal ADHD diagnosis for your child, our in-person assessments provide a structured, child-centred way to understand what is going on and plan the right support. Being in the room with your clinician can feel more natural for some children and families, particularly where attention, anxiety or communication difficulties make online appointments harder.

Saturday appointments are available which can make it easier to attend without your child needing to miss school.

Assessments are delivered by clinicians with specialist experience in child and adolescent ADHD and neurodevelopmental conditions. We bring together information from home, school and the young person themselves to reach a fair, evidence-based conclusion.

This is a multi-disciplinary team assessment. Our Neurodiversity Specialist (who also works in the NHS) will conduct the in-person assessment with your child and yourself. We will also require feedback from your child’s school. If your child is diagnosed and medication is recommended, our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will then take over the process of medical treatment. Once medication is optimised our psychiatrist will then send a Shared Care agreement request to your GP, to take over your prescriptions. This type of multi disciplinary assessment is fully compliant to NICE guidelines, and can support an application for EHCP (Education Healthcare Plan).

To schedule your child’s in-person ADHD assessment, please select a suitable date and time, then follow the instructions to complete your payment. Flexible payment options (including Klarna) are available.

What is a child ADHD assessment?
A child ADHD assessment is a detailed evaluation that looks at whether your child meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. It is designed to build a clear understanding of your child’s attention, activity levels, impulsivity and wider support needs across home, school and everyday life.
This assessment is suitable for children where there are concerns about attention difficulties, hyperactivity, impulsivity, emotional regulation or related challenges at home or school. It can also be helpful for families who want clarity after ongoing concerns or long waits for assessment elsewhere.
Assessments are carried out by experienced neurodevelopmental clinicians, including professionals with expertise in child ADHD and wider child development. The assessment process follows recognised diagnostic standards and considers your child’s presentation carefully and thoroughly.
The in-person assessment is a structured process rather than a single appointment. It may include a developmental and medical history, parent questionnaires, school feedback, direct face-to-face assessment of your child, and a review of any previous reports or relevant background information.
The in-person child ADHD assessment lasts 90 minutes. This forms part of a wider assessment process that also includes pre-assessment review, information from parents and school, and the preparation of your child’s diagnostic report.
Yes. Parent or carer input is an essential part of the assessment, and school reports are mandatory in accordance with NICE guidance. This helps the clinician understand how your child presents across different settings and supports a careful and evidence-based diagnostic process.
No. A child ADHD assessment is more than a brief screening or checklist. It is designed to gather information from different sources so that any diagnosis, or decision not to diagnose, is careful, robust and evidence-based.
The assessment looks at areas such as concentration, impulsivity, activity levels, organisation, emotional regulation, learning, friendships and developmental history. It may also consider whether other factors, such as autism, anxiety or learning differences, could be relevant.
After the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report explaining whether your child meets the criteria for ADHD and, if so, the presentation identified. The report is designed to be clear and practical, helping you understand how ADHD may affect your child’s learning, behaviour and day-to-day life.
Yes. The report can be shared with schools and is written to help teachers, SENCOs and other professionals understand your child’s needs more clearly. It includes practical recommendations that may help support your child in the classroom and across wider school life.
Yes. The report may form an important part of the evidence used for an Education, Health and Care Plan application or review. It explains your child’s needs, the impact on learning and daily functioning, and the kinds of support that may be appropriate.
Yes. The report includes practical recommendations tailored to your child’s needs. These may relate to support at home, in school and in other settings, so families and professionals have clearer guidance on the next steps.
Yes. If ADHD is diagnosed and medication is considered clinically appropriate, medication options can be discussed with a consultant psychiatrist. This includes considering benefits, possible side effects, monitoring and how treatment may fit alongside school and family life.
Shared care may be possible once your child’s medication is stable, but you should always check with your child’s GP before starting treatment if shared care is important to you. There is no national policy on shared care, and decisions are made locally by individual GP practices and healthcare boards. More than half of our shared care agreements are accepted by NHS GPs, as our medication pathway is managed by consultant psychiatrists. Final approval, however, always rests with your child’s GP.
Yes. Follow-up appointments can help parents understand the outcome of the assessment, review next steps, discuss support at school and, where relevant, review medication or treatment plans.
Yes. An in-person appointment can be helpful where face-to-face interaction and direct observation may add to the clinician’s understanding of your child’s presentation.
