  • The clinician will also speak with the parent about developmental history, current concerns and functioning at home and school.

Why Choose ADHD Health Clinic for Your Child ADHD Assessment?

ADHD can present differently across childhood and adolescence. Our pathway is purpose-built for ages 6–17 and combines clinical rigour with a calm, family-centred approach.

A single, integrated assessment is delivered by clinicians specialising in child and adolescent ADHD. Within one structured appointment, we speak with the young person and the parent, and incorporate input from school to form a coherent, multi-informant view. Validated rating scales are used to quantify symptoms and functional impact across settings, supporting fair, reliable decision-making.

After the assessment you will receive a clear diagnostic report for your GP and school, including tailored classroom recommendations, reasonable adjustments and next steps. Appointments are typically available within weeks, helping families access support sooner.

Understanding ADHD Symptoms

Symptoms often manifest differently in individuals and can have a significant impact on various aspects of life.

For More Information

What is a child ADHD assessment?
A child ADHD assessment is a detailed evaluation that looks at whether your child meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. It is designed to build a clear understanding of your child’s attention, activity levels, impulsivity and wider support needs across home, school and everyday life.
This assessment is suitable for children where there are concerns about attention difficulties, hyperactivity, impulsivity, emotional regulation or related challenges at home or school. It can also be helpful for families who want clarity after ongoing concerns or long waits for assessment elsewhere.
Assessments are carried out by experienced neurodevelopmental clinicians, including professionals with expertise in child ADHD and wider child development. The assessment process follows recognised diagnostic standards and considers your child’s presentation carefully and thoroughly.
The online assessment is a structured process rather than a single appointment. It may include a developmental and medical history, parent questionnaires, school feedback, direct clinical assessment completed remotely, and a review of any previous reports or relevant background information.
Yes. Parent information is an important part of the process, and school feedback is often very helpful where available. This allows the clinician to understand how your child presents across different settings and to build a fuller picture of their needs.
No. A child ADHD assessment is more than a brief screening or checklist. It is designed to gather information from different sources so that any diagnosis, or decision not to diagnose, is careful, robust and evidence-based.
The assessment looks at areas such as concentration, impulsivity, activity levels, organisation, emotional regulation, learning, friendships and developmental history. It may also consider whether other factors, such as autism, anxiety or learning differences, could be relevant.
After the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report explaining whether your child meets the criteria for ADHD and, if so, the presentation identified. The report is designed to be clear and practical, helping you understand how ADHD may affect your child’s learning, behaviour and day-to-day life.

Yes. The report can be shared with schools and is written to help teachers, SENCOs and other professionals understand your child’s needs more clearly. It includes practical recommendations that may help support your child in the classroom and across wider school life.

Yes. The report may form an important part of the evidence used for an Education, Health and Care Plan application or review. It explains your child’s needs, the impact on learning and daily functioning, and the kinds of support that may be appropriate.
Yes. The report includes practical recommendations tailored to your child’s needs. These may relate to support at home, in school and in other settings, so families and professionals have clearer guidance on the next steps.
Yes. If ADHD is diagnosed and medication is considered clinically appropriate, medication options can be discussed with a consultant psychiatrist. This includes considering benefits, possible side effects, monitoring and how treatment may fit alongside school and family life.
In many cases, the aim is to move to shared care once medication is stable and effective. Clear documentation can be provided for the NHS GP, including treatment summaries and titration details. However, the final decision always rests with the GP and local NHS policy.
Yes. Follow-up appointments can help parents understand the outcome of the assessment, review next steps, discuss support at school and, where relevant, review medication or treatment plans.
Yes. Online appointments can be a helpful option for families who would prefer to avoid travel or need something that fits more easily around school and family life.
